At long last, Gratitude

I had not thought

To be thus taught

    Of love…

Through silences,

Through absences,

Through talk of other women,

And through lies…

Through a husband’s cool indifference

    To my cries…

Through callous, cruel,

And careless nonchalance…

Through lack of interest

In my needs or wants.

But oh, in His great wisdom,

Abba gave

To me

A “mirage” rotting in a grave.

And then, He gave me

What I needed most,

He introduced me to the Holy Ghost!

The Comforter!

Whose arms did draw me near.

Encircled me, and

Sheltered me from fear.

Each night that I

Would pray for hours

And weep

Until my weary eyes

Would close in sleep

Upon that bathroom floor

Behind closed door

Just listening to him snore,

And snore, and snore.
