There is a Season

The Bible says, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven….a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance…” (Ecclesiastes 3)  Can you almost hear the song by The Byrds circa 1965?

And the Bible is true, of course.  We have seasons of planting, of harvesting, gaining and losing.  Because we live on this fallen planet, we experience birth, death, pain and joy…sometimes all within the same week.  Cycles come around and around, turning and turning.  Some people will ask, “What is the point of it all?”

As followers of Christ, we know that He has purpose for all that happens in our lives, and there is no such thing as happenstance, accident or coincidence.  Whether it is something good or something terribly tragic, our sovereign Lord reigns supreme in His power and love.  He is in charge and intimately involved in the lives of His people and His whole creation.  That’s something we could ponder for a long, long time.

Even the death of an abusive spouse falls into the category of “What God is in Charge Of.”  The Lord’s timing and plan is always perfect, although we cannot possibly understand it.  My heart aches to consider the grief of those I know who have lost a spouse recently, whether abusive or pretty nice most of the time, there is such a sadness and such an adjustment.  These friends and family members are trying to find the new normal…the new season.

How are you coping with loss today?  Do you have a strategy or are you letting life happen?

Are you one who sits by yourself, pondering the meaning of it all?

Or are you surrounding yourself with all the busyness you can muster up?

Are you talking to anyone?  Is anyone reaching out to check on you?

Know this ABOVE ALL ELSE…the Lord Jesus is with you and He is our comfort at all times and in all seasons.

At FOCUS Ministries, we have known loss and grief.  We are here to listen and help and pray for you.  Please include us in your grieving strategy during this heart-breaking season.
