As believers in Jesus Christ, one of the best things to believe (and know with all of our heart) is that after He was crucified, He rose from the dead three days later. That’s where the comfort and the hope comes from. Because Jesus conquered death and the grave, God the Father was pleased with His sacrifice for us. We are justified and free because of that great resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead. We are no longer slaves, living in fear, living in suspense, full of anxiety and doubts.
Our final destination, Heaven, is settled once and for all, because of our Savior Jesus. By His grace we are saved by faith in Him. The high price for our sin is paid – the debt is cancelled – His righteousness is credited to us! And how wonderful that even our faith is a gift from God.
Why does this matter today?
Living in oppression under the dark dangerous cloud of domestic abuse is a hopeless place, full of worry and fear and walking on eggshells. The feeling of being trapped is overwhelming. How can we ever lift our eyes to the skies and believe that anything will ever change?
How can we even hope for a real Savior when all the daily grind in this life is tied up in a marriage or relationship that is full of evil and betrayal and rejection? How can we truly believe in the love of Christ when there is no love in our home that isn’t manipulative and deceitful and all about control and power over us?
I had a lot of questions. Where is God? Does He hear my cries? Does He see what I’m going through? Does He care?
The short answer is YES YES YES…
The Cross is the proof of the love of God. We need to only look at the Cross to know that we are loved beyond anything we ever knew in this life. The Cross is always our hope and our strength. No matter how deep our pain and suffering is, the Cross is the evidence that our God knows all about pain and suffering too.
Because Jesus is alive, we have the HOPE that He can do anything! He will give us grace to stay in the bad marriage and He will give us grace if He calls us away from the abuse.
“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:12
